RECAP: TOUR TO ASTORIA CRAB, SEAFOOD & WINE FESTIVAL

What an outstanding way to begin our touring season!! Not to mention our first driving tour ever for our newly developed CCA Oregon Chapter.

Over a dozen cars gathered at The Country Inn Restaurant in Warren on Saturday April 24th.  Some members grouped early to fill their bellies, while others caught a little extra shut eye. The day began with a short drivers meeting as the clouds began to part making way for blue skies and the hope of sunshine.

Shortly after 9:00 AM we had over 50 shining wheels spinning up Hwy 30 towards the beautiful scenic roads in the back hills of Columbia and Clatsop County.  Special guest, Pro-tem President Brian Cone,  led the driving tour, followed by a bright red 2002, a pair of 840’s, too many M’s too count and a couple other choice beamers, while I hung back playing sweeper car.

The weather started off cooperating with nice and dry roads, as Brian lead us at a pleasing brisk pace. At some point, we did manage to drive into a few down pours of our famous Oregon liquid sunshine, but the club didn’t let that spoil their fun.

At one point the group thought they lost their sweeper car, after I stopped in the middle of a mountain somewhere to promote membership for our new club.  I sort of felt it was my duty as I pulled up alongside a newer 7 series, with driver beaming after having followed us through the first 27 miles of our tour as he shouts “what club are you from?”  It took me another 12 miles to catch back up to the pack and regain radio contact.

We took a short break after our decent from the mountains to stretch and regroup at Jewell Meadows wildlife area, where we had small talk and donut offerings from a local Corvette Club doing the same., Then it was back on the road to our final destination near the mouth of the Columbia River.

The rally came to an end at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds, where the Astoria –Warrington Seafood & Wine Festival was taking place. Members dispersed their own way to enjoy the rest of the day by participating in the Festival enjoying live music, fresh seafood, arts & crafts, a beer garden, and over 200 local wineries.

Others took this opportunity to go explore the abundant amount of things to do and see in the area, or continued onward for some solo touring of their own.

All and all it was a huge success for the clubs first official event. Many thanks to everyone that participated and a special thanks to Brian for his great up beat tour pace he provided.  And we are all pretty sure he had time to spare before the Trail Blazers playoff game that afternoon!

I hope to see all of you at more of our coming events.
