I have a 95 525iT w/ ~180K miles that treated me well but has been off the road for about a year. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to give it the attention it needs. Here’s a list of its ailments:
- Automatic transmission has started to slip. I tried topping off the fluid, but I’m not convinced I did this well. If I had the resources I’d probably swap in a 5 speed.
- The lift gate wiring harness is faulty. I removed it, performed some continuity tests, replaced some sections, and reinstalled it. This fixed some issues and created others. This is a common issue and it probably needs the subharness replaced.
- There’s a mystery battery drain. Maybe related to the harness issue? I replaced the battery a couple years ago but it’s not wanting to take a charge from my smallish NOCO trickle charger.
- The suspension could use some attention. I replaced front shocks but had to reuse the top mounts for reasons I can explain to the curious. I have a set of OEM front shocks that might be worth swapping in if the proper mounts can be found.
The body’s in decent shape but needs a cleanup. The roof rack rails will need to be repainted. The sunroof doesn’t leak! (unless you take it through a drive-through car wash)
